Does Good Parenting Require Worry?

Standard

Children are God’s most precious gems. The Lord knits a baby, fearfully and wonderfully made, in a mother’s womb. And it is our job as parents to raise our children in a life of full-faith so that they may bask in our Lord’s splendor and glory. But the enemy wants to interfere with such plans.

Do you recall a time before your children were born when you were carefree, bold and courageous? Whether it was a life of full-faith or being youthfully carefree, the enemy likely did not haunt you with worry, fear and guilt near as much as he did the moment your first child was born. Sure, there is some healthy wisdom and responsibility that comes with parenthood, but the enemy also plants seeds of doubt in the hearts of parents the moment they bring God’s baby into this world. And it is up to us to prevent those seeds from flourishing.

All parents wrestle with anxious thoughts when it comes to their children. Some days are better than others. But if you are losing sleep and wringing your hands from worry and fear when it comes to your children, then you are under attack from the enemy. As parents, we must boldly claim our children for our Lord and rebuke the enemy’s seeds of doubt. We shall stand strong and not allow the enemy to steal the joy that comes from raising our children for God, through Jesus and with the help of the Holy Spirit. After all, “if God is for us, who can ever be against us?” (Romans 8:31).

So set out today and every day to cast away the plague of parenting worry. Instead, stand confidently in full-faith of the Lord’s cover, provision and glory for our children.

From Psalm 91 (NLT), let’s confess the following in full-faith for our families and our children:

We live in the shelter of the Most High so
we will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

This we declare about the Lord:
He alone is our refuge, our place of safety;
he is our God, and we trust him.
For he will rescue us from every trap and
protect us from deadly disease.
He will cover us with his feathers.
He will shelter us with his wings.
His faithful promises are our armor and protection.

We will not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
nor the arrow that flies in the day.
We will not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
Though a thousand fall at our side,
though ten thousand are dying around us,
these evils will not touch us.

We can just open our eyes, and
see how the wicked are punished.
We make the Lord our refuge,
we make the Most High our shelter,
so no evil will conquer us;
no plague will come near our homes.

For he will order his angels to
protect us wherever we go.
They will hold us up with their hands so
we won’t even hurt our feet on a stone.
We will trample upon lions and cobras;
we will crush fierce lions and serpents under our feet!

The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
I will protect those who trust in my name.
When they call on me, I will answer;
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue and honor them.
I will reward them with a long life and
give them my salvation.”

AMEN!
